Old Cairo is so named because it is the oldest part of Cairo, and in fact, predates what is now Cairo. Some Egyptologists believe that there was a settlement here as far back as the 6th century BC. Later, the Romans built a fortress here which we call Babylon. Some of these Roman walls still exist.

Cairo – an old love of mine. I spent 9 years there, growing up as a teenager. Now in March 2012 I came back again after many years, unfortunately I had almost no time.

Is it still the same as 20 years ago? No. But these moments, snapshots in time which seem to survive across the decades are still there.
Here are “my” moments.

I wish the egyptian people all the best during these difficult times. I hope the spirit of the Tahrir Square remains and does not die out.
